Ceva Animal Health Vectra 3D Flea Control Review
Chemical burns with Vectra 3D for dogs
My vet used to have Frontline available at their office. Several years ago they changed to Vectra.
I tried it on both of our Golden Retrievers. Abby was fine with it and experienced no side effects. Kali immediately showed signs of skin burns, so when I called the vet, he said he'd never seen that in other clients' dogs. I stopped using it on Kali and Abby because I also noticed that Abby was getting ticks on her and that had never happened with Frontline.
Switched back to Frontline: happy dogs, happy humans. Fast forward to January 2016: we adopted a rescue, Cookie, took her to our vet and needed a flea and tick med. I thought it's been a few years, maybe the company has changed its formula of Vectra so I gave it another chance. I asked the vet again if dogs were experiencing chemical burns and his answer again was no.
The first dose was fine. Second dose......poor Cookie. Burn along her entire back where the Vectra was applied. I am currently back to Frontline and looking for another less toxic alternative to these horrible chemicals.
Any recommendations will be appreciated. Has anyone had any luck with essential oils?

We have a 3 year old schichon, cutest teddy bear dog you ever did see! We gave him vectra 3D in July of 2015, immediately he began panicking around our home, hiding, itching, crying.
It was the scariest thing I've seen. We called the vet and they said that's just the reaction and if he doesn't stop to call tomorrow. Well it didn't stop, it progressed. The vet told me to wash him in dawn and see if it helps.
It didn't. I called the poison control center for animals and they guided me into putting viatamin e oil on his irritated spots. As well as Benadryl. It helped for a few hours.
I requested speaking with my vet, I was extremely upset that they even offer this product after doing my research! So over the next few months it got worse, he started loosing his hair evetywhere, went bald, itched so badly, he still spends 90% of his time itching himself. And now he's officially blind. We decided today to lay him down.
It's no longer fair to watch him suffer..I would love to help anyone to prevent them from using this product! Please don't!
